for people affected by cognitive disorders and how alternative channels can be

employed to increase engagement and participation and reduce cognitive overload

Inspired by current practices in CBT, cognitive behavior therapy, I performed a literature review on what other problems can be addressed using a version of CBT and the possible limitations of using it.

Search Procedure

ACM Library, IEEE Database, Springer, and Google Scholar were primary

sources for academic papers from peer-reviewed conferences and publications.

Peer-reviewed journals were the primary filter to ensure consistency.

The research questions that influenced the review, based on the brainstorm are:

  • RQ1: How can we effectively express thoughts in games?

  • RQ2: What is the ideal method to engage in game-based therapy methods?

  • RQ3: What are the considerations for people with cognitive impairments?

Based on established studies, there has been constant development in mental health practices revolving around communication. When restricted to people with cognitive and speech disorders, it has been proven that a mixed methods approach of rewards, incentives, and tasks works beneficially.
