Scope

The IoT prototype was developed as a potential solution to address the increasing rates

of self-harm in the United States. By measuring four parameters, the prototype differentiates

between panic attacks and symptoms related to working out and sends an alert to emergency contacts.

Measurements

The device uses 5 sensors to measure and transmit information related to panic attacks. It determines that the user is in danger if the following conditions are met:

  • Heart rate increases.

  • No or negligible movement.

  • Elevation of body temperature.

  • Skin conductivity increases.

Alerting Mechanism

The prototype sends a consent message to the user,
to verify if the user can address the panic attack themselves or needs external help. There is also an internal override that sends the SOS message to the emergency contacts, if the user denies helpt twice in a row.

Python

Used for interfacing IoT and cloud (PushSafer)
